Open a .p7s file online and see who signed it

Free. The file never leaves your device. Works on phone and computer.

Download is not the first step for a p7s file. The file is only a signature. Add the original document and SignedDocs tells you whether it matches, then shows the signer name.

What a p7s file contains

A detached signature stores the signer certificate, the signing time and a digest of the document. It does not store the document. If the name is smime.p7s, the missing document is an email. Otherwise it is usually the PDF that arrived beside the signature.

Compare the original and read the names

Choose the .p7s, then use Add original. A match means the digest in the signature is the digest of that file. You then see the document and the names. A mismatch means this is not the file that was signed. Download the original signature and keep it with the document.

Open a p7s file when you have both pieces

Choose the signature above and download nothing until you have added the original. The page works on a phone and on a computer. The files never leave the device, and there is no account.

What is a .p7s file?

A .p7s file is a CMS signature stored on its own. The document it signs is a separate file. Mail programs save this next to a PDF or as smime.p7s.

Where did I get it?

It arrives with signed email in Germany, Ukraine, Italy and Poland, and from portals that send a detached qualified signature.

Is it safe?

Yes. SignedDocs reads the signature in your browser and does not upload it. There is no account. Keep both the signature and the original document.

Why won't it open by double-click?

A .p7s file has no document inside, so a PDF reader has nothing to show. Open it here, then add the original file.

How to open it on iPhone/Android?

Open this page in Safari or Chrome and choose the .p7s from Files or the mail attachment. Then choose the original document.

Is the PDF still legally valid?

The PDF is the document. The .p7s is the signature. Save both. This page shows the signature data and is not a legal validation.

Why is there no document in smime.p7s?

smime.p7s is the signature of an email, not the email. The message stayed in the mail program. Add that message if you still have it, then download the original signature and keep it.
